Career Experience Modules
“HANDS-ON” FIELD WORK EXPERIENCE
Students work the fields in a “hands-on” experiential adventure! Students gain an appreciation and understanding of the field-work process and what it takes to bring produce to market -- the significance the Salinas Valley as the “salad bowl of the world” and a key player in food production of a hungry nation. Experience the valuable role of the migrant worker laboring in the fields, learn the “business” of farming, and follow the farming industry “from seed to plate” at local lettuce plants, production fields & the administrative operations of growing “a salad.”
NATURALIST-LED NATURE HIKES
Meet with our Naturalist Guides as they take you through the majestic state parks & local reserves that are homes to some pretty incredible flora, fauna & wildlife! Our expert Naturalist-guides escort small groups at nature reserves and State Parks to provide a “learn as we go” outdoor classroom environment and a “hands on” exploration of nature! We discover the daily duties, benefits, and quality of life as a National Park Forest Ranger for one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the world.
OCEANOGRAPHY & MARINE STUDIES
Ocean Science & Marine Biology are the focus here! Students dredge ocean & bay waters to take water samples for study, net fish from the bay while handling them & identifying their adaptations, participate in hydrology & plankton studies & more! Students are kept in small groups to maximize learning experience. Kelp harvesting, conservation and local ecology can be the focus of any marine study tour.
ORGANIC FRUIT FARMS
A guided visit to a working fruit farm offers our groups a “behind-the-scenes” peek at the Ag-Industry from the perspective of local family-run organic farms and suppliers! Nita, our “Hostess Extraordinaire” will welcome your group to her farm with a tour of the orchards, an afternoon of apple or berry picking (seasonal), a visit to the juicing facility, and an introduction to the method and machinery needed to harvest the abundant organic crops….enjoy a slice of a delectable “mile-high” apple pie to complete your adventure! Group visits local ranches, fruit farms and to national produce suppliers like “Fresh Express” for personalized facility tours and presentation by key on-site staff members.
UNIVERSITY CAMPUS TOURS
Agricultural as a profession begins as agriculture as education….College and University Campus visits can augment any career foci tour and get your students pointed in the right direction! Our visits to local college and university campuses keep a special focus and theme emphasis upon the “Ag-Industry.” Students meet with appropriate on-campus “Academia” for private “Q&A” sessions discussing the curriculum, program requirements, course work and potential employment opportunities which follow graduation. The fields of future agricultural innovation, animal husbandry, and botanical explorations await your student!
