The town of Jackson was named after the famous Indian fighter Colonel Alden Jackson. Today, the famous Kennedy Mine in Jackson still stands and is open for tours. Amador City offers many historic buildings including Amador Whitney Museum. Columbia is a state park, as well as a town and one of the best preserved areas in the Gold Country. In this legendary mining town, where prospectors were picking thirty pound nuggets off the ground in 1850.
